Smoked Salmon Bagel

  • Author: Dianna
  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Bagel Base

  • 2 bagels (plain, sesame, or everything bagels)
  • 4 oz (115g) smoked salmon, thinly sliced

Spread

  • 1/2 cup (120g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp capers, drained
  • 46 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Fresh dill sprigs for garnish

Optional Add-Ons

  • 1/2 avocado, sliced
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes for heat
  • Microgreens or arugula for extra freshness

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Spread

Begin by creating a flavorful base for your bagel. Combine softened cream cheese, fresh dill, lemon juice, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Mix well until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. The lemon juice adds a subtle tang, while the dill gives it a fresh, herby kick.

Pro Tip: For a sweeter variation, try adding a touch of honey to the cream cheese mixture.

2. Toast the Bagels

Slice the bagels in half horizontally and toast them until they’re golden brown. A crispy, warm bagel provides the perfect foundation for the toppings. If you prefer a softer texture, skip the toasting and serve them as-is.

Variation: Brush the bagel halves with olive oil or butter before toasting to enhance their flavor.

3. Assemble the Bagels

Spread a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture on the bottom half of each toasted bagel. Don’t be shy—this is the glue that holds all the flavors together.

Next, layer 2–3 slices of smoked salmon over the cream cheese. The salmon should be thinly sliced and slightly ruffled to create a light, airy texture.

4. Add the Fresh Toppings

Top the salmon with thin slices of red onion for a bit of crunch and sharpness. Add cucumber slices for freshness, and sprinkle a few capers over the top for a tangy, briny kick. Cherry tomato halves bring a pop of sweetness and color.

5. Garnish and Serve

Finally, garnish the bagel with fresh dill sprigs and any optional toppings, such as avocado slices or microgreens. Place the top half of the bagel over the assembled ingredients, pressing gently to hold everything in place.

Pro Tip: For an open-faced presentation, skip the top half of the bagel and serve it as-is for a lighter option.
