Ingredients
Scale
For the Juicy Smashed Patty Burger:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for maximum juiciness)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Lettuce leaves, for serving
- Sliced tomatoes, for serving
- Sliced red onion, for serving
- Cheese slices (optional)
For the Secret Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Make the Secret Sauce:
- In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, pickle relish, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Mix everything together until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Set aside to let the flavors meld while you prepare the burgers.
2. Prepare the Patties:
- Take the ground beef and gently divide it into four equal portions. You want to handle it as little as possible to keep it tender.
- Roll each portion into a loose ball—don’t worry about making them perfect. We want that homemade vibe!
3. Heat the Grill or Skillet:
- Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat. If you’re using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.
- Make sure it’s hot enough to give those patties a good sear. You’ll know it’s ready when you can feel the heat radiating off the surface.
4. Sear the Patties:
- Place the meatballs on the hot grill or skillet. Using a sturdy spatula, press down on each ball to flatten it into a patty. You want to hear that satisfying sizzle!
- Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Let them cook undisturbed for about 2-3 minutes to develop a nice crust.
5. Flip and Cook:
- After 2-3 minutes, carefully flip the patties. If you’re adding cheese, now’s the time to place a slice on each patty. Cover the grill or skillet with a lid for about 1 minute to help melt the cheese.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F for medium doneness.
6. Toast the Buns:
- While the burgers are finishing up, place your hamburger buns on the grill for the last minute to toast them lightly. This adds a delightful crunch and helps prevent the buns from becoming soggy.
7. Assemble Your Burgers:
- Spread a generous amount of secret sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
- Place the juicy patty on top, then layer with lettuce, tomato slices, and red onion. Top it off with the other half of the bun.
8. Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve these delicious burgers immediately with extra secret sauce on the side for dipping. Don’t forget to add your favorite sides, like fries or a refreshing coleslaw!
