Brûléed Brie Crostini

  • Author: Dianna
  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 small baguette, sliced into 12 thin rounds
    • Crispy, golden rounds provide a sturdy base for the creamy Brie.
  • 8 oz Brie cheese, sliced into thin wedges
    • Soft and creamy, Brie becomes even more luxurious when warmed and caramelized.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
    • The brown sugar caramelizes beautifully, adding that perfect brûléed crust.
  • Olive oil, for brushing
    • Keeps the crostini from becoming dry and helps them crisp up nicely.
  • Optional garnish: fresh thyme or a drizzle of honey
    • Adds a lovely finish, enhancing the presentation and flavor.

Instructions

1. Prepare the Baguette Slices

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides lightly with olive oil.
  • Bake for about 5-7 minutes or until the slices are golden and crispy.
    • Tip: Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn! You want a light crunch, not a hard rock.

2. Arrange the Brie on the Crostinis

  • Place a slice of Brie on each toasted baguette.
  • The Brie should be thick enough to give that creamy bite but not so thick that it overwhelms the crostini.

3. Brûlée the Tops

  • Sprinkle about ½ teaspoon of brown sugar on top of each Brie slice.
    • Tip: Try to sprinkle evenly so you get that nice, consistent caramelization.
  • Using a kitchen torch, gently brûlée the sugar on top of each crostini until it bubbles and caramelizes to a golden brown.
    • Don’t have a kitchen torch? No problem! Pop the crostinis under your oven’s broiler on high for about 1-2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.

4. Add the Finishing Touches

  • For a touch of elegance, garnish with a small sprig of thyme or drizzle a bit of honey over each crostini.
    • The thyme adds a subtle earthiness that balances the sweetness, while honey enhances the brûlée flavor.

5. Serve Immediately

  • These are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven or right after brûléeing, while the cheese is still soft and melty.
