Boozy Peppermint Mocha Coffee

  • Author: Dianna
  • Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of brewed strong coffee (use your favorite coffee blend or a coffee maker like French press or espresso machine)
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder (for that rich chocolatey flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar (you can adjust this based on your sweetness preference)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract (for that signature minty kick)
  • 1 cup of milk (use whole milk for creaminess, or any dairy-free alternative you prefer)
  • 1 oz of your favorite alcohol (Baileys Irish Cream, rum, or Irish whiskey work beautifully)
  • Whipped cream (for topping—optional but highly recommended!)
  • Crushed peppermint candies or chocolate shavings (for garnish—adds a nice festive touch)
  • A sprinkle of cocoa powder or ground cinnamon (optional, but it makes the presentation even better!)

Instructions

  • Brew the Coffee:
Start by brewing two cups of strong coffee. You want it to be rich and bold to balance the sweetness of the chocolate and the creaminess of the milk. If you have an espresso machine, feel free to use espresso shots for a more intense flavor!
  • Prepare the Chocolate Mixture:
While the coffee is brewing, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the unsweetened cocoa powder and sugar. Add about 1/4 cup of the milk and stir until the mixture becomes smooth and thick, like a syrup. This step is important to make sure the cocoa powder dissolves properly and you don’t get any lumps.
  • Add Peppermint Flavor:
Once your chocolate syrup is ready, add in the peppermint extract. This will give your drink that perfect wintery touch, without being too overpowering. Give it a good stir and taste it to ensure the balance is just right. You want to be able to taste the mint without it overpowering the chocolate.
  • Mix in the Coffee and Milk:
Pour your freshly brewed coffee into the saucepan with the chocolate and peppermint mixture. Stir everything together until it’s fully combined. Then, add the rest of the milk (about 3/4 cup) to the saucepan and heat the mixture until it’s just hot enough, but not boiling. This is where you can adjust the sweetness—taste the mixture and add more sugar if you want it a little sweeter.
  • Add the Alcohol:
Now comes the fun part—add in your alcohol of choice. Baileys Irish Cream will give it a rich, creamy vibe, while rum or Irish whiskey adds a nice warming effect. Stir it in and let it blend with the coffee mixture. Feel free to taste and adjust the amount depending on how boozy you want it!
  • Serve and Garnish:
Pour your peppermint mocha coffee into two mugs. Top with a generous swirl of whipped cream and garnish with crushed peppermint candies or chocolate shavings for that extra festive touch. A sprinkle of cocoa powder or ground cinnamon on top will add a nice finishing touch.
  • Enjoy:
Sit back, relax, and take a sip. You’ve got yourself the perfect cozy, boozy drink to enjoy all winter long.
